Denver to Vail & Beaver Creek Ski Transportation Guide
Vail and Beaver Creek sit about 100 miles west of Denver on I-70. With a private chauffeur, your group skips rental cars, mountain driving and parking, and starts the trip the moment the doors close.
Quick facts
- DistanceAbout 100 miles from downtown Denver, about 120 from DIA
- Typical driveAround 2 hours in clear weather; plan extra time on snowy weekends
- Main routeI-70 west through the Eisenhower-Johnson Tunnels and over Vail Pass
- Best vehiclesBlack SUVs for 1-6, Sprinter vans for 7-14, coaches for big groups
Why groups skip the rental car
The drive itself is the hard part of a Vail trip. Weekend ski traffic on I-70 can stretch a two-hour drive much longer, and storms can close the tunnels or Vail Pass for a while. When a professional chauffeur is driving, your group can sleep, plan the first run or just look out the window instead of watching brake lights.
A private vehicle also solves the gear problem. Skis, boards and duffels for six people will not fit in a rental SUV with the seats up. We match the vehicle to your headcount and your luggage, so nobody rides with a ski bag on their lap.
Colorado winter driving rules on I-70
Colorado’s traction law is in effect on I-70 between Morrison and Dotsero every year from September through May, and it can be tightened during storms. Commercial vehicles have their own chain rules. Our chauffeurs drive this corridor all winter, check road conditions before pickup and plan stops around closures, so you do not have to think about any of it.
Picking the right vehicle
- Couples and small families (1-6): a black SUV with room for skis in the back.
- Ski crews and family reunions (7-14): a Sprinter van with high roofs, real luggage space and room to stretch.
- Corporate retreats and big groups: a mini bus or full motor coach with under-floor luggage bays.

Many groups book a stop at a grocery store in Frisco or Edwards before check-in, a round trip on the last day, or an evening ride to dinner in the village. Tell us the plan and we build it into one estimate. Every trip is quoted as a FREE custom estimate based on the vehicle, date, hours and route. Most bookings have a 4-hour minimum; prom, homecoming and high-season weekends have a 6-hour minimum.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to get from DIA to Vail?
Usually around two and a half hours in good weather. Snow, weekend traffic and tunnel or pass closures can add time, so we plan pickups around your flight and the forecast.
Can you fit skis and snowboards?
Yes. Tell us how many ski and board bags you have and we choose a vehicle with enough cargo space, or add a larger vehicle for big groups.
Do you drive when I-70 has winter restrictions?
Our chauffeurs follow Colorado’s traction and chain laws and watch road conditions closely. If CDOT closes the road, we wait it out safely and keep you updated.
Can you pick us up at our Vail hotel for the return trip?
Yes. Most groups book a round trip: DIA to Vail on arrival and Vail back to DIA on departure, timed to your flight.
